Fraud, Waste, AND ABUSE DURING COVID-19:

What it looks like and how to report it

Understanding Fraud, Waste, and Abuse

As with most major disasters, unscrupulous individuals and companies will likely find a way to take advantage of the resources and aid the government designates in response to and for recovery from this COVID -19 pandemic. The availability of such large amounts of funding will attract dishonest people, who are determined to steal government funds designated to help individuals and communities for their own personal gain.

Fraud is intentional deception to receive a gain or benefit. Waste is over-utilization of goods or services that results in unnecessary costs. Abuse is payment for items or services when they weren’t necessary or there is no legal entitlement to that payment.
